Byla vydána verze 0.11.0 softwaru pro statistickou analýzu dat GNU PSPP (Wikipedie), svobodné alternativy k proprietárnímu softwaru IBM SPSS Statistics (Wikipedie). Vedle několika vylepšení a oprav chyb jsou řešeny také 2 bezpečnostní chyby CVE-2017-10791 a CVE-2017-10792. O týden později byla vydána verze 1.0.0 přinášející pouze aktualizaci překladů. Na blogu Oracle se objevila zpráva o tom, že plánovaná verze Java EE 8 bude uvolněna jako open source (referenční implementace a compatibility kit). V současné době je uvolněna jen Java SE (standard edition) pod licencí GPLv2 v podobě OpenJDK (Open Java Development Kit), kterou začal v roce 2006 uvolňovat Sun.

Po téměř 3 měsících od vydání třetího čísla publikoval Michal Špaček na svých stránkách čtvrté číslo newsletteru věnovanému bezpečnosti, bezpečnému vývoji převážně webových aplikací a bezpečnosti uživatelů. Jedná se současně o číslo poslední: "Nepíše se mi to lehce, a trvalo to, než jsem to ze sebe dostal, ale tohle je poslední newsletter v této podobě. Ani jsem ho nestihl pojmenovat a už jsem ho zabil. Nezbývá mi tolik času, abych každou událost, novinku a změnu v prohlížeči detailně popisoval tak, jak bych v newsletteru chtěl, mrzí mě to".

Společnost Hardkernel stojící za jednodeskovými počítači ODROID představila na YouTube minipočítač určený pro domácí cloud ODROID-HC1 vycházející z ODROID-XU4. Minipočítač s kovovou krabičkou, do které stačí vložit 2 a půl palcový disk, lze koupit za 49 dolarů. ODROID-HC1 je stohovatelný.

Andy Rubin, spoluzakladatel společnosti Android, jež byla v roce 2005 koupena Googlem, nyní CEO společnosti Essential Products, oznámil předprodej chytrého telefonu Essential. Telefon se začne rozesílat 1. září. Cena telefonu je 699 dolarů. Cena telefonu současně s 360° kamerou s rozlišením 4K byla stanovena na 749 dolarů. Kameru, v budoucnu i další příslušenství, lze k telefonu připojit pomocí konektoru s magnety.

    oprava raid a obnova lvm - ztrata dat?

    Dobry den,

    dnes jsem se prihlasil ke skolnimu serveru a zjistil jsem ze vubec nevidim lvm svazky. Nasledne zjistuji ze nevidim uz raid md2, na kterem lvm jsou.

    lvm je na raidu md2 (ktery momentalne nevidim, coz asi bude ten problem..) Predpokladam, ze bude nutne znova zkonfigurovat raid md2 a problem se vyresi. Otazkou vsak zni jak, abych neco nepokazil a neuzavrel si posledni cestu k obnove dat...

    Dalsi problem mozna vidim v tom, ze raid mozna byl nejakou dobu degradovany a tim padem ani nevim, jak zjistit na kterem disku jsou data aktualni.

    Najde se nejaka dobra duse, ktera pomuze male zakladni skole s obnovou dat?

    Predem dekuji za kazdou radu, ktera povede k vyreseni problemu.

    Dekuji za reakce. Resync bych ale videl v /proc/mdstat? Ten posledni log bych bral s rezervou - grep ./*... Ten resync je v souboru /var/log/anaconda.syslog, ale tam bohuzel neni uvedeno nikde zadny datum ani cas, takze tezko rict jak je to stare...

    Tak jsem se nakonec po studiich moznosti odvazil nasledujici.

    Pomoci
    mdadm -E /dev/sda3
    mdadm -E /dev/sdb3 
    
    jsem zjistil na kterem disku jsou data novejsi (ve vypisu update). Tim jsem si i overil ze system raid na disku vidi (diky bohu...).

    no a pak uz stacilo jen vyvorit raid....
    mdadm -A /dev/md2 /dev/sdb3
    
    a bylo vyhrano...

    Dobry den,

    hned ako ste sem vlozili opis tohto problemu ma napadla dolezita otazka preco vobec pouzivat LVM a SW raidy na serveroch? Preco radsej neuprednostnit plnohodnotny HW radic.

    V poslednej dobe co citam, tak som nadobudol taky pocit ze sa jedna o smrtiacu kombinaciu pre data a je len otazkou casu ked to pride. No a to by som naozaj nechcel byt v kozi toho admina.

    No, můj pohled na věc je takový, že když se rozpadne SW raid, tak jsou nástroje, kterými se dá zjistit, co se stalo a dá se pokusit o záchranu dat. Kdežto pokud se rozpadne HW raid, tak se musíte spolehnout na to, že to řadič vyřeší a pokud se něco nepovede, tak bůh s vámi (a vašimi daty). Navíc SW raid poskytuje větší možnosti konfigurace.
    Cez párne mesiace zošíváš vaginy, cez neparne montuješ hajzle.

    Ma to historicke a financni duvody. Ten kdo kdysi ten server stavil tvrdil, ze mnohdy zakladni desky stejne delaji sw raid a plnohodnotny hw je drahy. A jiste si dovedete predstavit jak vypada takovy server na male zs... Tuhle zbylo nejake PC, koupily se vetsi disky a server byl na svete. Zda je lepsi HW nebo SW raid nedokazu posoudit. Kazdopadne v tom SW mate vetsi skalu moznosti konfigurace. Na te smrtici kombinaci neco bude, ale asi to vzhledem k pouzivanosti nebude tak zle :).

    At uz HW nebo SW raid LVM nebo rovnou FS, vzdy je dulezite ZALOHOVAT, ZALOHOVAT, ZALOHOVAT a to nejlepe mimo zalohovany stroj...

    Myslím že odpověď proto používat SW RAID je v několika rovinách.
    1. Cena. Pokud mám levná zařízení, která slouží jako datové servery např. tady diskutovaný HP Proliant Microserver N40L za 130€ tak se tam žádný HW řadič cenově nevejde. A takové zařízení pro obrovské množství uživatelů a organizací je zcela dostatečné jako "server". Je jasné pokud mám server v kategorii 100k Kč nebo 10k € je mnohem obvyklejší mít na něm HW RAID.
    2. Statistika. Důvody, proč při diskusích je mnohem více otázek na problémy se SW RAIDem je v podstatě záležitost statistiky. Počet lidí používajících SW RAID je mnohem vyšší než těch, kteří spravují systémy s HW RAIDem. Navíc takové zařízení mají obvykle větší rozpočty a tím pádem propracovanější politiky zálohování a případné problémy s HW RAIDem se proto tak často nedostanou do obecné diskuse jako se SW RAIDem.
    3. Opravitelnost. To, že při problému se SW RAIDem, s tím mohu něco udělat (mám nástroje), ale při problémech s HW RAIDEM ne, již bylo uvedeno.
    4. Péče. Podobně při stejné úrovni péče o systém jako u systémů se HW RAIDem (UPS, zálohy, konzervatismus při práci se systémem a výběru balíčků) by SW RAID měl také mnohem méně problémů
    A vedle toho si myslím, že hlavní důvod problémů je v tom, že prakticky neexistuje levné pomalé vysokokapacitní zálohovací médium. Už jsem psal poznámku jinde, ta situace když někde kolem roku 93 měl malý server cca 64MB paměti, cca 600MB a přístup na páskovou jednotku s páskami cca 6GB (tedy 10 větší kapacita než disky a jedna páska stála cca 5-10% ceny toho disku, tedy kapacita na pásce byla za cenu cca 50 krát nižší než na disku a na zálohovní byla často kapacita i 100 větší než aktivní data na disku - 10 pásek) umožnila mít obsah disků zazálohovaný mnohokrát. Teď přijít s tvrzení: Koupíme 3x tolik disků než potřebujeme na běh. Důvod je, abychom na ně zálohovali, tak management odpoví: Jste se zbláznili. Pak se spíše nezálohuje, ale duplikují se nejvíce kritická data, a RAID se chápe jako náhrada záloh a to v principu není, je spíše metoda udržení běhu systému při HW poruše do nějaké úrovně, ale ne principielní ochrana dat.
