tak potom je tvoj output v poriadku. pozri man grep:

       -c, --count
              Suppress normal output; instead print a count of matching lines for each input file

matchuje pocet riadkov, nie vyskyt slov. neviem co chces dosiahnut, ale na pocitanie slov mozes pozuit (aj) wc(1).
