Using a real TRS-80 was complicated -- they were built before the age of user-friendly computers. You probably have the wrong ROM image. I can only guess from the filename, but "M100rom.bin" sounds like it's probably a Model 100 ROM, not a Model I ROM. I don't have permission to distribute ROM images from the Model I, so I can't send you one. If you want to boot the emulated TRS-80 from a disk image, you have to symlink the disk image file to the right file name as described in the xtrs man page. Sorry, it's my fault that this part is not user-friendly. As on a real TRS-80, you need a disk in drive 0 that has the operating system on it. I have no way to know where you got dancing_daemon.dsk from and whether it has an operating system or is just a data disk.
