Sun Microsystems is extending its wireless technology development team in Prague. A team of engineers will be hired to develop a new mobile platform for smart phones, personal digital assistants, set-top boxes, printers, and other embedded devices that could run Java.
The already established Wireless Toolkit Team in Prague is responsible for the development of a new mobile technology for small cell phones and devices with limited memory and processor resources. The team has succeeded in the implementation of the Mobile Service Architecture, a brand new Micro Java platform that will soon be available on new cell phones. This new platform includes:
The team’s most recent product is the Sun JavaTM Wireless Toolkit 2.5, which is a standard in the development of mobile applications. The Wireless Toolkit is an award-winning tool set, which is used to develop mobile applications without having the actual device. It includes a highly capable emulator of the phone device. For optimization, the tool includes a profiler, memory monitor and network monitor, usability and intuitiveness are of great importance. Starting with version 2.5.1, it will support both the Windows and Linux OS environments. The NetBeans user can find the technology implemented and the tool integrated as part of the Mobility Pack.
The evolution in mobile space is moving at a rapid pace, and Sun Microsystems would like to invest in the running of Java on more advanced devices such as smart phones, PDAs, set-top boxes, Blu-ray devices and intelligent printers. To be able to do so, the team is now actively hiring and looking for experienced engineers for senior positions as well as for talented new graduates for junior positions. Requirements for the positions include:
