Asi je zbytečné to více komentovat, ale jen pro pořádek:

Tohle brání v užívání toho softwaru na drtivé většině míst, protože to znemožňuje ocenit zásluhy jednotlivých lidí. Pokud někdo udělal hodně práce nebo nakoupil spoustu vybavení ze svého, tak je na tom stejně, jako ostatní, kteří se třeba jen vezou.

Na to jsem taky koukal, zejména jestli to vůbec splňuje třeba takový brmlab nebo vpsfree (ownera to asi má - česky se to jmenuje „skutečný majitel“). Vote nevím jestli všichni členové mají - samozřejmě volí na valné hromadě, ale pak zvolená rada už sama hlasuje o různých věcech. A pod equity nevím co všechno si představit - je to když někdo přinese osciloskop a nechá ho k užívání? Hlavně equal vote neškáluje, jestli si pod tím jako představuje, že v družstvu o 1000 lidech budou všichni hlasovat o každé blbosti a nebudou na to mít orgány.

Nicméně to, co ty píšeš, tak podle mě není. I s equal vote si můžou odhlasovat, že Alice dostane kompenzaci 30 a Bob dostane kompenzaci 10.

BTW: tu licenci změnili až teď, takže jestli o tenhle software někdo stojí, tak doporučuju si to forknout a posledních pár commitů odmazat. A máte z toho normální software pod MIT licencí.

A nevím, jak moc toho sami vytvořili - PEmbroider staví na EmbroideryIO, která je pod MIT licencí.

Tady se ukazuje, že asi jediná jistota je (A)GPL (bez "or any later" klauzule), která zaručuje, že vám to nepřelicencuje korporát, který to bude prodávat jako proprietární software/službu a zároveň vám to nepřelicencuje ani komunista, který by software používal pro svoje politické agitace a omezoval použití těm, kdo chtějí normálně podnikat nebo třeba zajišťují naši bezpečnost a vymahatelnost práva.

I appreciate your interest in PEmbroider's licensing, and your debate about our use of the new Anti-Capitalist License.

Prompted by one of the members of this discussion (thanks), we have amended the license for PEmbroider to a sort of Frankenstein, which combines GPLv3 with Anti-Capitalist Software License v.1.4. After some discussion with an OSS lawyer, we do not believe these two licenses are in conflict, since the ACSL is concerned with very different things than the GPL. In short, our license is GPLv3, encumbered by ACSL.

It is important to understand the reason we made PEmbroider, and the specific kind of use we are trying to prevent. Commercial embroidery software costs MULTIPLE THOUSANDS of dollars, and often includes tiered profiteering schemes for very basic drawing tools — for example, in one commercial product, it's an extra $100 to be able to add lettering, an extra $350 to be able to edit shapes, and an extra $950 to add outlines to shapes (see https://twitter.com/golan/status/1274248717135200257). We believe that creating your own designs for your embroidery machine shouldn't require monthly financing (see https://twitter.com/golan/status/1274242857860239361). PEmbroider is intended primarily for artists, craftspersons, educators, makers, and schools. Thus, here is a very quick and practically-oriented summary of the kinds of uses we are trying to encourage, prevent, and enforce:

• users are encouraged to use PEmbroider to make art (including selling their art, if they wish);
• (via GPL) users are required to share their improvements to PEmbroider;
• (via ACSL) users/developers are expressly forbidden from using PEmbroider to profiteer on the backs of artists, craftspersons, educators, makers, and schools. An example of this would be using PEmbroider to make commercial software such as (e.g.) Floriani Total Control Embroidery Software ($3499), DIME Designs in Machine Embroidery ($2999), Viking Premier Plus 2 Ultra ($2979), Hatch Embroidery Digitizer ($1099), Janome Artistic Digitizer Software ($1199), DesignerPlus Full Version ($1874), DRAWings PRO XI ($1299), etcetera.

I see in this discussion the assertion that "PEmbroider is not FLOSS!" if a user is prohibited from repackaging it as egregiously overpriced commercial software that profiteers from artists and students. Yep, OK. You got me. I guess it's not really truly FLOSS then. But for every other use case, it is.

@Richard, regarding your question "I don't know how much they created themselves - PEmbroider relies on EmbroideryIO", the answer is on our front page: "PEmbroider includes file-writing code adapted from the EmbroidePy EmbroideryIO project". We're using their code for exporting data in the correct file formats, and that's it. Everything else in PEmbroider — especially including our computational geometry algorithms for path planning, stitch patterns, filling shapes, etcetera is ours.

FYI this is actually pretty common, see for example PCB design software (KiCad vs. Autodesk Eagle, which has crazy subscription model), Blender vs. commercial 3D modelling, or even GNU/Linux compared to commercial UNIXes. Though this of course does not mean you are not free to set your license any way you wish.

They are actually only required to share it with the others, who get the modified software from them, and nothing if they do changes and use them only by themselves.

No (maybe this got lost in translation). The problem is that you cannot run the software in your "standard" company, which contradicts the Freedom 0 of free software definition (The freedom to run the program as you wish, for any purpose).
