Canon neslouží

Už nějakou dobu nemůžu fotit s Canonem S2 IS, v režimu "záznam" mam černý displej.

Řešení jsem odložil na chvíle "volnějš", které právě přišly.

Popis chování: vše se jeví ok, zapnu, prohlížim kartu, displej reaguje, až na ... nevidim skrze foťák realitu. Čili buď elektronika nebo ... mechanika k.o.?

Pár poznámek a zjištění: podle chdk zjištěn postup, jak objevit firmware ... a taky "ZoomLensError0004", když je ns kartě chdk firmware.

Když se čočky nehýbají aneb e18 error, to se mne asi netýká. Rozebírání SD500. Pro inspiraci, kdyby na to došlo ... jak někdo poznamenal v diskusi, neni problém rozebrat, je problém dobře složit.

I've had my S5 for less than five months. Started getting the lens error. Sent the camera to them a month ago. Got word from them today that they will not fix the camera under warranty. They claim that it has moisture damage.
I promise all of you that I've used the camera on the order of 2-3 times in the outdoors, period. Never at the beach, never in the rain, etc.
If there is moisture damage, this camera can't take any kind of humidity at all.
I will not be buying a Canon again. What a shame, since the camera was a pretty good one. I am very angry about this, and I believe that my anger is justified. I will be joining the class-action suit that is being filed against Canon for this manufacturing defect. I will see where that leads.

This is a very common complaint. And while I'm sure some of those people _did_ use it in adverse conditions, some of the are likely being falsely accused.
Either: a) Canon cameras are made very frail with lens errors being common during normal use and they refuse to support more than a few claims each year (to prevent financial losses), or b) these cameras were intended to be used only with in "clean rooms" such as those within hard drive manufacturing facilities.
Its not just Canon though. I've heard about other camera brands having lens errors. In fact, I bought a new camera because my old (and crappy) Gateway camera would no longer extend on power on. I don't know how the other companies are at accepting it as a design flaw and repairing it under warranty. Given the economics of it, my guess is that other companies also try to weasel out of it... otherwise they would become financial harmed.
Its like how hard drive manufacturers still offer 3 and 5 year warranties, but its from the time of manufacture, not purchase. Buy a 4 year old "new in box" drive with a 3 year warranty and you have no warranty. Returns/repairs cost a company money, they have to try to limit those losses somehow in order to stay in business... Sure they could make a better product, but that costs money to develop and their product would be more expensive.

I understand what you say better than most -- I am with a major Japanese electronics manufacturer myself. Avoiding losses does not excuse poor design and poor support. We stand behind our products to a fault. Canon does not.
I will pay more for a better camera, as evidenced by this purchase -- there are/were plenty of lower-priced options.
I will also add that my company is a digital camera OEM, but I chose the Canon on specifications, speed and photo quality. That is, I chose to pay a premium over my own employee discount to get what I thought was a better camera. It wasn't.
The fact that this issue is wide-spread (quite literally thousands of dissatisfied users) and shirked by Canon is inexcusable in my opinion.
PS: The class-action suit was recently dismissed because the legal team that mounted the challenge failed to show that it should be combined for class-action status. It's left to each of us to fight it out alone, and I intend to pursue this on the principle of it all.

As expected, my "conversation" with a repair supervisor was nothing but the company line about how it's not Canon, it's me, etc. I shouldn't have wasted the time.
What a complete sham. Canon -- you make a product that is flawed and you will not service the affected units.
Thousands. According to e18error.com, over 5,000 users and counting. Bad for business, Canon. Bad for business.

Měl jsem podobný problém na Canon A75. Volal jsem přímo a Canon, kteří mi řekli, že mají výrobní vadu a jsou poblémy se spoji u senzoru CCD a mám to poslat do AWH Servisu v Praze. Byť byl foťák dávno po záruce, tak mi jej zadarmo opravili. Na lístku z AWH je napsáno provedení výměny CCD snímače.

Tak jo, ozvu se jim. Podle všeho by to mohla být mechanická závada ... All users that have this problem in their Canon S3 IS cameras, don't continue wasting your money and time. Most of the times when this black LCD and viewfinder problem appears, it's because the iris aperture is stuck (completely closed). This happens when the camera has not ben used for a while. It is a mechanical issue, that 99% of the times can be fixed by yourself. This applies to the models S2, S3 and S5, where the iris mechanism and assembly is the same. It seems a Canon flaw in their mechanical design .

Předběžný "ohledání" jsem už dělal, drobet jsem ho rozebral, kvůli objektivu bych ho musel rozebrat ještě víc, abych zkontroloval stav ...

Ok, taky se poptam. Jako další foťák mam vyhlídlý SX20 IS, pokud to bude Canon. Tak zatim počkam s volbou.

Je to pořád stejné, ať jde o foťáky, notebooky nebo třeba disky. Podobné historky najdete na webu pro každého výrobce. Pro některého je jich víc, pro někoho méně. Obvykle to odpovídá míře rozšíření příslušné značky…

Jedna věc je přístup ke spotřební elektronice, kdy se produkuje, aby se prodávalo a druhá věc to, že by mohlo ccd vydržet dost dlouho ... A properly made CCD will have a lifespan measured in decades or more.

Tedy zakopaný pes je v očekávání, že digi foťák vydrží třeba jako Zenit, čili deset a více let provozuschopný.
