Dotaz: Ubuntu 8.04 - Pomalost systému

Zdravím, mám Ubuntu 8.04 (Gnome 2.22); 512 MB ram, 10 GB HDD; systém souborů reiserfs a Linux mi jede dost pomalu, nesvižně. Když otevírám nějaký aplikace nebo maximalizuju atd.., dost dlouho trvá než se vykreslí. A dost nesvižná je i práce v aplikacích, když třeba ve Firefoxu otevírám nebo zavírám okna, tak to trvá třeba 3-4 vteřiny. Aplikace Google Earth se každou chvíli drhne. Mám i Windows XP a oproti Ubuntu se mi zdá mnohem svižnější i když drtivá většina lidí tvrdí opak tak nevím v čem je u mě problém. Napadlo mě že bych si Linux nainstaloval znova na systém souborů ext3 ale nevím jestli by to mohlo být tim. Nevíte čim by se dal zvýšit výkon systému?

Z vlastní zkušenosti bych řekl, že na slabším stroji je ubuntu znatelně pomalejší než WinXP a to i při použití binárních nvidiích ovladačů. Např. MIDI klávesy nemají narozdíl od WinXP téměř žádné zpoždění, ale GUI (FF, překreslování oken, atd.) je opravdu pomalé (Duron 1GHz, 512MB RAM, GeForce 6200 AGP, prázdný swap, ale na cache už moc nezbývá).

Firefox byl do verze 3.0 mnohem pomalejší ve vykreslování oken a práci s ním.
Tím, že systém nainstaluješ na ext3 si ve výkonu nepomůžeš.
Nenapsal jsi, jaký máš procesor :-/.

jinak grafikou to asi nebude, i kdyby nejela akcelerovane, tak to takle moc system nezpomali ( znam to z vlastni zkusenosti). jeste se muzes pomoci prikazu top podivat, zda ti neco zbytecne nezere cpu/ram.

Nenapsal si jaky mas procesor a grafiku. Za nejvetsi brzdu bych tipnul harddisk a nasledne grafiku. Vyzkousej taky program preload - podobne jak ve Windows se snazi optimalizovat nacitavani casto spoustenych aplikaci (sudo apt-get install preload) nebo stahni: tady

Omlouvám se za spožděnou odpověď ale dneska mi jde příšerně net. Největší žrout paměti tu mám FireFox 3.0 (teď zatěžuje cca 30% ram) ale ten mi zatěžoval i ve Windows. Preload jsem si teď nainstaloval, načítání se zdá být o něco rychlejší ale stejně pořád celkově systém neni moc svižnej, ale dík za to.

Hardware: Grafická karta - GeForce 6600, Procesor - Celeron 2.66GHz

Co jsem četl jako doporučenej hardware pro Ubuntu, ne minimální tak bych řekl že pomalí PC nemám.

Sorry, nemoh sem si to odpustit. K tematu, co zkusit naky livko (Slax, Knopix, nic s gnome me nenapada) pro srovnani, jestli to je stavem Ubuntu? Myslim, ze na zminovanym HW by mel Linux chodit bez problemu. Podle vypisu je akcelerace zapnuta, tak to vypada difne, ze to neni svizny...
