Bylo oznámeno (en) vydání Fedory 33. Ve finální verzi vycházejí tři oficiální edice: Workstation pro desktopové nasazení, Server pro serverové nasazení a IoT pro internet věcí. Vedle nich jsou k dispozici také vznikající edice Silverblue a alternativní desktopy, např. Provoz USB zařízení blokuje celou sběrnici

Chtěl bych se zeptat, jestli někdo netušíte, zda se dá nějak vyřešit následující problém. Na mém postarším stolním počítači Dell Optiplex 9020 mám problém s USB. Když nějaké USB zařízení komunikuje, stane se USB sběrnice nepoužitelná. Je to natolik zásadní, že kvůli tomu nemohu používat ani bezdrátovou sadu klávesnice+myš, takže mám k bezdrátové USB myši drátovou PS/2 klávesnici. A pokud kopíruji data třeba na flash disk, je myš mimo provoz, ale systém jinak běží krásně, při ovládání klávesnicí jsou odezvy systému v pohodě.

...v tom logu není vidět třeba verze kernelu nebo kernel command line.

Jsou tam vidět nějaké chybky z ACPI, které mohou ale nemusí znamenat problém. A nějaká hláška ohledně EHCI handoff...

Systém je založený na Haswellu, což je poměrně moderní železo.

Jak vypadá /proc/interrupts po nějaké době běhu?

Zkoušel jsem nabootovat live DVD OpenSuse, jestli je možné, že je problém v mém systému, a tam to bylo ještě horší, tam když jsem zapíchnul flashku vedle myši, tak se to nejen kousalo, tam to úplně vytuhlo, ani po 5 minutách nereagovala ani myš ani flashka, po vytažení flashky myš opět jela bez problémů. Všimnul jsem si ale, že to nedělají vůči sobě všechny USB porty. Nevím, jak je USB strukturováno, tak to nazvu kanálem. Blokují se porty, které jsou na jednom kanálu. Například na skříni mám vepředu 4 konektory. Když to dám do konektorů vedle sebe, tak zařízení nereagují, když je dám do konektorů nad sebou, jede to v pohodě. Bude to zřejmě HW problém, ještě bych mohl zkusit, zda není pro mou desku novější firmware a zkusit ho updatovat.

Ano ten motherboard má dva kanály EHCI. Pokud laborujete s různou konstalací kam co zapojíte, zkuste se vždycky podívat pomocí lsusb -vt, kde Vám periferie vyplavala = na kterém EHCI kanálu. Možná Vám to něco upřesní ohledně toho vašeho nápadu, že na jednom kanálu se nesnese víc periferií pohromadě.

Přijde mi zajímavé, že dva kanály EHCI s interrupty 16 a 23 normálně fungují, je tam rozumný nenulový počet IRQ událostí (driver jede přes "legacy" IO-APIC irqčka) kdežto u xhci = IRQ 37, ve skutečnosti MSI, má na všech jádrech počet nula. Pravda je, že asi nemáte žádnou USB3 periferii, takže to může být nakonec taky v naprostém pořádku...

Můžete ze zvědavosti vyzkoušet kerne cmdline opšny pci=nomsi a/nebo irqpoll . Nebo drsně pci=noacpi, ale to si nejsem jistý, jestli stroj vůbec nabootuje.

Taky koukám na parametr xhci-hcd.quirks , ale nejsem moc moudrý, který z těch asi 36 různých qirků by se mohl týkat pozorovaného chování... většina těch quirků se týká konkrétních obskurních značek a modelů XHCI. A možná se to XHCI nakonec ani netýká, viz výše.

Není v BIOSu něco ke štelování? Nějaký ten XHCI resp. EHCI handoff? "Legacy USB support" a podobné magické volby? (Emulace HW řadiče PS/2 klávesnice/myši nad USB, zařízeno v rámci SMI...)

Děkuji za tipy, do BIOSu jsem se díval, je tam jen zapínání a vypínání několika skupin konektorů a povolení/zakázání USB3. Až budu mít trochu času, zkusím otestovat ty parametry. Nějak nevím, co dřív, nestíhám vůbec nic. Nepoužívám grub, ale systemd-boot, tak budu muset nastudovat, jak to tam zadat. Potom dám vědět, zatím děkuji.

Tenhle loader ještě neznám... našel jsem obsáhlou wiki stránku v dokumentaci Arch linuxu, kde se mluví o konfiguráku $esp/loader/entries/*.conf (pro každý jednotlivý boot profile samostatný soubor), řádek pro kernel cmdline argumenty začíná klíčovým slovem "options", jednotlivé opšny oddělovat mezerou. Ovšem může to být celé složitější, pokud navíc používáte "unified kernel image" = zas nějaká specialita: kernel, initrd a cmdline argumenty, plus /etc/os-release a splash obrázek, smotané do jediného souboru... a celé to může být podepsané pro potřeby UEFI secure bootu.

Ten konfigurák mám velmi jednoduchý a secure boot nepoužívám.

Při bootu mi funguje i klávesa e pro změnu parametrů. Každý den to chci testnout a každý den si zapomenu v práci flash disky, u nichž se celý problém projevuje zcela jasně a výrazně. Hlava děravá... :-)

Tak. Keď sa zatrolí fórum balastom, tak prestane byť zaujímavé pre slušných ľudí. Podobne ako keď hudobná kapela zmení žáner, a stratí pôvodných fanúšikov. Akurát že si tá kapela nájde nových rozumných fanúšikov a jej vystúpenia sa nestanú hniezdom tro(t)lov.

  • pci=nomsi nepomohlo
  • pci=irqpoll také nepomohlo
  • pci=noacpi - jak předpokládals, nenaběhlo
A potom jsem zkoušel ten -vt parametr pro lsusb. A to už něco prozradilo:

Pokud to dobře chápu, je to naopak, než jsem předpokládal. Pokud jsou na různých sběrnicích, připojí se flashdisk v USB3 režimu a všechno se začne kousat. Pokud jsou na stejné sběrnici, připojí se jen jako USB2 a všechno běží hladce...

Super :-) takže už víte, že to má něco společného s USB3 / xhci. Takže: když máte nějakou kousavou variantu zapojení = disk se chytí na USB3, chodí nějaké interrupty driveru xhci_hcd ? Viz /proc/interrupts. Pokud nechodí, tak možná zhruba víte, kde je problém.

Mohlo by pomoct, zkombinovat nomsi a irqpoll. Tzn. zakázat u XHCI použití MSI, tzn. nechat ho ať běží přes virtuální drátěný interrupt, patrně masivně sdílený s jinými zařízeními. A pokud by tenhle interrupt (routovaný skrz acpi) šel někam stranou, tak je ještě šance, chytit ho přes irqpoll - tato volba tuším spouští *všechny* obsluhy PCI interruptů na *všechny* přišedší interrupty. Tzn. je to úžasně neefektivní a pro trvalý provoz nezpůsobilé, ale mohlo by to přinést zlepšení konkrétně u toho XHCI, pokud mu bůhvíproč nefunguje MSI.

A další dotaz: jestli správně čtu, zatím neznáme Vaši verzi kernelu... Ten hardware nemusí být scifi novinka, stačí pokud máte prostě moc starý kernel, nebo nějakou konkrétní verzi s konkrétním quirkem... Bejvaly doby, kdy podpora USB3 nebyla úplně vychytaná. Navrhuji uname -a .

Ono by to taky mohlo být vadou USB3 podpory v target bridgi toho storage zařízení. Nezkusil byste jiné USB3 zařízení?

Trochu mě zaráží, že by přihnilé konkrétní zařízení na USB3 způsobovalo zásek celého USB stacku (zařízení na jiných hostitelských řadičích). Žeby jakýsi globální zámek? To bych skoro považoval za bug v kernelu...

Tak jsem zkontroloval ta přerušení xhci, ta při připojení flash nabíhají. Také jsem si přinesl domů 2 flashdisky na vyzkoušení, chovají se stejně jako ten můj. Jeden úplně jinačí Kingston a jeden Patriot (ale lsusb na něj prozradil, že je to uvnitř také Kingston).

Jádro je ve verzi 5.9.0, konkrétně distribuční 5.9.0-arch1-1 #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon, 12 Oct 2020 18:52:13 +0000 x86_64 GNU/Linux

To zkombinování nomsi a irqpoll bych měl zadat při bootu stejně jako když jsem zadával jen jedno z toho? Pokud ano, tak jsem to zkoušel a také to nepomohlo :/

Hm. Tak už mi došly nápady. Udělal jste všechno správně. 5.9.0 je extrémně nová a navíc kulatá verze, ale předpokládám, že to máte otestované už s nějakým starším jádrem, které tak ohavně kulaté nebylo.

Kdysi dávno pamatuju pár případů, kdy se určitá generace SSD chovala blbě, a jednalo se klidně o víc modelů od různých výrobců SSD - společným jmenovatelem byl čip řadiče. Pamatuju si konkrétní model od 3S. Ale je to hrozně dávno, bylo to na IDE, kapacity tuším v desítkách MB. Dneska se sice jedná ve všech třech případech o Kingston, ale tomu nepřikládám velkou váhu - USB cetky všichni výrobci testují především proti Intel HCI.

To nevadí, i tak moc děkuji za čas a rady. Možná je ten problém důvodem, proč ten počítač nějaká firma odprodala, ačkoliv je bohatě předimenzován pro jakoukoliv kancelářskou práci (kupoval jsem ho od prodejce, co prodává repasované delly, jen jsem si do něj dokoupil NVMe disk).

Co zkusit tam strčit PCIe USB3 kartu, že by se ten onboard USB3 slot nepoužíval?

Tu už tam nedostanu, je tam jen jeden dostupný PCIe, a ten jsem obsadil NVMe kartou ;)

Super, vyzkouším všechno. Zatím jsem zkusil to nejrychlejší - transparent huge pages, výchozí bylo madvise, zkusil jsem dát never i always, problém to neovlivnilo. V klidu si prostuduji ty další věci a pak je otestuji. Rušení WiFi to nebude, protože se mi kousala i kabelová USB klávesnice, když jsem původně myslel, že mám špatný signál.

Scheduler se nastavuje per block device, textovým pseudo-souborem /sys/block/sda/queue/scheduler (dosaďte svůj block device) - použijte příkazy 'cat' a 'echo'. Tzn u výměnného disku by to asi znamenalo, změnit ho až po připojení. Což nevím, jestli řeší problém. A koukám že globální default se dá nastavit kernel cmdline parametrem elevator=bfq . Ale dost možná tenhle scheduler beztak už používáte.

VID/PID toho disku lze zjistit pomocí lsusb v připojeném stavu.

Jo, máte pravdu, že otestovat jsem to mohl hned, líbilo se mi v odkazu dále odkazované archwiki, že je tam postup jak nastavit pomocí udev pro každý typ zařízení jiný scheduler. Ale stejně nastavení bfq scheduleru pro daný flashdisk nepomohlo :( Tak mi ještě zbývá to vypnutí UAS, čemuž moc nerozumím, tak si to budu muset pečlivě pročíst, abych si nerozbil ještě něco dalšího.

UAS není nic děsivého. Transport SATA nebo SCSI transakcí nastojato nad USB. Virtuální SCSI kanál mezi OS a řadičem disku, zprostředkovaný nad USB. Jakožto alternativa k omezenému/hloupému/pomalému standardu USB mass storage. Teda vlastně: UAS je fičura navíc, speciální režim fungování, v čipech které slouží jako USB/SATA bridge a "mass storage" je jinak jejich defaultní režim fungování.

Moment: vy ale máte Kingstona, nativní flashku. Mám silné podezření, že tam se o UAS nejedná :-( Takže další falešná stopa.

Ještě by se asi dalo zkusit XHCI vypnout úplně (blacklistnout modul), pak by to asi jelo UHCI/EHCI...
